Climbing crag in Granada

For true adventurers. Make the most of your stay.

CLIMBING AREAS

In the Granada area we have  16 schools, with around 160 sectors and more than 2,000 routes.

Below we show you the official schools in Granada, ordered by distance from our hostel.

Besides these, there are also other schools nearby that belong to Málaga or Jaén that are only an hour's drive away, which definitely makes them a good option for a day of climbing, such as for example Reguchillo or the famous Villa Nueva del Rosario like many routes of all grades but which became internationally famous with ‘Chilam Balam’ (9b) and its 82 metres in length.

Cogollos de la Vega

220 tracks

Our base of operations, just a few metres from our accommodation!
It has incredible high walls with many medium grade routes.
All the walls are south facing, the perfect place to climb in winter.

Bouldering in Cogollos de la Vega

Climbing area within the hostel property. Excellent quality rock routes of varied style.

ALFACAR

383 tracks

It is on the edge of the Sierra de Alfaguara natural park with a great view of Granada.
One of the biggest schools in Granada, the climbing is very diverse and offers all grades, but especially a lot in the lower range.

Los Cahorros

385 tracks

The incredible canyon with a river and waterfalls is one of the most visited trails in Granada. The climbing is very particular as there are many routes spread over different sectors. It offers approximately 30 routes of less than 6a+ grade.

Moclín

272 tracks

It has two main sectors: a slab and a very vertical one with overhanging parts and many holes, as this sector looks like a Swiss cheese, they call it "Gruyere".
You will also find a via ferrata to combine with your climbing day.

Peña Cabrera

64 tracks

This school is also known as Diezma (the city) or El Naranjitois an old school on the outskirts of Granada. The rock is worth a visit, thanks to the various climbing styles it offers and its great view of the Sierra Nevada.

Poloria

72 tracks

Poloria is a large cave located on a private estate. Climbing with a wide variety of holds
and the lines are mostly quite collapsed, with rails, holes, blunts and spurts.
To climb it even when it rains.

Piñar

95 tracks

It is a hard grade school, it was published in Desnivel in 2017, then it was requiped due to its attractive climbing. We recommend a climb to the castle, to visit one of the most important monuments of the municipality.

Loja

241 tracks

A school of incredible scale with quite diverse styles, with slabs, overhangs, drips and continuity climbing, there's everything.

Los Vados

404 tracks

Viznar

Rock of exceptional quality and one of the most expansive walls. Hot springs nearby. Avoid going on windy days.

Dilar

School where Spain's first 8th grader was chained in 1986. School of varied climbing.

Good manners and respect
to our environments

Most climbers are quite aware of these issues, but when we meet large groups we tend to quickly forget some basic rules, and if we don't respect the environment or local regulations, at some point there will be restrictions, sectors could be closed and/or unequipped, access to walls could be closed for not respecting the access path in cases of areas located on private property, or things like that. None of us want this kind of consequences, so here are some rules that we consider important and respectful.
